PERSONALITY
Regulus is naturally reserved and introspective. He tends to keep to himself in social situations, preferring to listen rather than speak. He is observant and attentive, often picking up on subtle cues and nuances in his environment. He is highly compliant and obedient, often following rules and instructions without question. Reg values authority and structure, finding comfort in clear guidelines and expectations and works hard to meet others' expectations and dislikes causing trouble or conflict.
Sadly this makes him rather impressionable and easily influenced by others, tending to defer to the opinions and decisions of those he perceives as more assertive or authoritative. He struggles to assert himself or advocate for his own needs and desires, instead prioritizing harmony and conformity. Because of this Regulus typically maintains a calm and composed demeanor, rarely raising his voice or drawing attention to himself. He much prefers to blend into the background rather than stand out in a crowd.
Despite this he is always striving to meet the expectations set by his parents and the traditions of his family lineage, feeling it is his duty since his elder brother left home never to return. this has caused him to internalize most of his thoughts, grappling with his inner conflict throughout his life. Reg is torn between his desire to uphold his family's beliefs and his growing disillusionment with the darkness behind the curtain he once supported before he knew the truth of things.
HISTORY
Regulus Answorth was born into the emotionally stunted world of the Answorth family, where wealth and status reigned supreme. From a young age, Regulus was taught how to behave as well as the consequences of embarrassing the family. He was keenly aware of his parents' disappointment and disinterest in him. Unlike his older brother, who was the center of attention and destined to be the shining jewel of their family, Regulus always seemed to fall short in his parents' eyes.
Growing up in the shadow of his brother, Regulus felt like he was constantly fighting for scraps of affection and approval from his parents. Percival and Dahlia Answorth were cold and distant, viewing Regulus as nothing more than a spare piece, someone to make connections with other prestigious family's to bolster his owns impeccable reputation. His only solace was that his older brother took the time to listen to him enthusiastically talk about the newest bug facts he had read about.
So despite his childhood being marked by neglect and emotional repression he grew up to be a very empathetic person. As he grew his parents became relentless in their criticism, constantly reminding him of his shortcomings and failures. No matter how hard he tried, Regulus could never live up to their impossibly high standards. His every accomplishment was met with indifference while his mistakes were magnified and used as further ammunition against him.
As Regulus entered adolescence, he began to grapple with his burgeoning sexuality, a secret he dared not reveal to his conservative and homophobic parents. He felt like an outsider in his own home, hiding his true self behind a facade of conformity and obedience. The situation only worsened when his brother abruptly ran away from home. His absence left behind a void that Regulus was expected to fill. Overnight, the weight of the family's expectations shifted onto Regulus's shoulders, crushing him under its unbearable pressure.
Forced to attend countless social functions and public appearances, Regulus felt like a puppet, forced to play the role of the dutiful son while his parents looked on with thinly veiled disdain. He was suffocating under the weight of their expectations, suffocated by the constant fear of never being good enough. He finally found relief when he was allowed to attend a neutral Academy. Aetherium.
The relief of being away from his family was palpable. No longer subjected to their constant criticism and manipulations, Regulus felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He reveled in the newfound sense of freedom and autonomy, savoring every moment of his newfound independence. While he still had high expectations and a family name to protect he found himself in a more understanding crowd. In his last year he knows things will have to change again, and he is not certain he is ready to face it.
