PERSONALITY
A survivor by nature Romulus is a tenacious, stubborn, headstrong guy who will do anything to protect himself and anyone he cares enough for. While he values himself above others his natural follower instinct places him as an attractive minion to the strong leader types. These strong leaders are usually the biggest bullies in the sandbox who he plays second fiddle to while backing up or egging them on. Often in the company of these types of people, he tends to seem like the same type to casual observers. The reality is he is young, small, and aligns himself with whoever can protect him no matter what type of person they are personality-wise.
HISTORY
Centuries ago the Nightingale family had been powerful and dangerous, feared within the realms for their command of magic. Fire ran through their veins and their connection to chaos made them fiendish, evil, and untrustworthy. Or so the story was told anyway. Romulus had never believed a word of it when his classmates taunted him, pushing him and saying his kind should have all been wiped out in the great wars. As a child he had no sense of controlling his temper and had often lashed out, causing him to end up in more trouble than the bullies. Not the first nor last injustice the young Imp would face in his life.
As he grew he developed a mean streak that he used to keep others from bullying him first. This new attitude quickly saw him in the ranks of the other outcasts. It wasn't until high school that he found himself as the lackey of a Demon boy two years older than him. The biggest bully on the playground, as the saying goes, is where he found a penchant for mischief, sass, and fire. The little firebug often set random things ablaze just for the attention it afforded him. With his sisters graduated high school and off to do their own things he had no one around to help or stop him.
Every time he ended up in trouble a call was made to his mother, his only living parent. The exhausted woman always apologized and did her best to not have him expelled, scolding him all the way home only to end with a 'why are you this way?'. For a long time, he used to feel guilty about his mother's lectures. At least until he realized it was just a manipulation used for that very purpose. For you see she always had him make up for his poor behaviour by stealing an appropriate dollar amount to 'pay back' his mother's 'suffering' when it came to his antics. If he did not meet her demand he would find himself sleeping out in the rickety shed.
When he finally built up the courage to leave school he did it under the guise of going to school. Packing all his belongings into his backpack and digging up the meagre savings he'd put in his rickety shack he had gone and bought a train ticket and never looked back. It was hard going at only sixteen years old but he got extremely lucky when he got off the train. A circus was in town and they just happened to be looking to take on new hands. The Twilight Troupe and its Circus of Arcane Wonders was not the glamourous work most looked for in careers but Romulus quickly found himself in a dysfunctional band of misfits where he fit right in.
